Sunburn Prevention

Summer is officially here and it is hot outside! While enjoying your outdoor activities, be sure to keep in mind that the sun is extremely strong during the summer months and you are at a higher risk of burning, even if spending only a few minutes outside.

Here are some tips on how you can prevent sunburn;

  • Sunblock. If you can’t avoid being in the sun, than sunblock would be your best chance at fighting off sunburns. Find sunscreens that have an SPF of 30 or higher. Also be sure to apply every 2 hours and more often if you are sweating or going in and out of the water.
  • Protective clothing. Hats, light colored long sleeve shirts and pants, and sunglasses are important because they help block the sun from getting to your skin.
  • Avoid sun exposure. It’s hard to avoid the sun, especially if you are spending the day at a beach or at a sporting event. However, the sun is strongest between 10 am and 4 pm – which means that the UV index is extremely high, increasing your risk of burning.
