Keeping yourself and your loved ones properly hydrated during these hot summer days should be an important thing for you to remember while enjoying outdoor activities. A common side effect of hot temperatures is a decrease in bodily fluids due to excessive sweating, increased urination and improper fluid intake. Here are a few tips on how you can avoid dehydration this summer;

  • Increase fluid intake. Drinking about 1 eight ounce glass of water every hour will properly hydrate you.
  • Rehydration drinks. Sports drinks are good at replacing vitamins you lose when you sweat.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeinated drinks and juices. These types of drinks increase urination which means you are losing fluids faster than you can keep up with.
  • Avoid exercise. Strenuous workouts while its hot outside causes you to sweat more and may cause dizziness or light headedness. These are triggers to dehydration and you should try and find a time of day where the sun is not at the highest point and the temps have lowered.
