Spring Sports Injuries

Now that spring has arrived, it is also time for many spring sports including track, baseball, and lacrosse. We here at AFC Urgent Care Dedham wants to give some tips to preventing injury this season.

Prior to participating, there are a few things you will need to do to prepare yourself. First, if you have been generally inactive for the weeks leading up to a sport, you should condition your body for physical activity. Also, while usually required, it is a good idea to receive a physical. Physicals can screen for any ongoing undiagnosed issues that may hinder participation. They can also check for potential future health risks that may arise throughout the season.

Leading up to and during the season, make sure to stay hydrated and maintain a healthy balanced diet. Before games, avoid eating at least 3 hours and drink plenty of fluids. Continue drinking fluids during and after the games. A malnutritioned and/or dehydrated body can be more prone to injuries.
