Streptococcal Pharyngitis, or “Strep Thoat” is a common infection of the tonsils and larynx. It is quite common among school aged children ages 5-15.
One of the main symptoms is a sore throat. Although not all sore throats are caused by strep, it is recommended to test for strep when this symptoms occurs. Swollen tonsils and lymph nodes along with a fever also accompany a sore throat. Doctors may use a throat culture or rapid strep test to diagnose.
Strep throat is curable with a simple antibiotic. If one is prescribed, make sure to take all of the pills. To help with symptom alleviation, over the counter pain relievers may be used.
